Many Weapons has produced an action packed Highlight video featuring the ever-growing pool of Jiu-Jitsu talent in Arizona at the 2010 AZ BJJ State Championship!
The GD JIU-JITSU Events in association with the Arizona State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (AZSBJJF) is proud to announce the 2010 Arizona BJJ State Championship. The competition will take place on October 16 & 17 at the Westwood High School located at 945 W. 8th St. in Mesa, AZ 85201.
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition will offer kids, juvenile, Adult (Male and Female), Master, and Senior Divisions, plus two Black Belt Open Classes, Open Light (167.5 lbs and under) and Open Heavy (Over 167.5 lbs). The winner of each Open division will receive a ticket to the 2011 European BJJ Championship in Lisbon, Portugal. An additional ticket will be awarded to the Raffle Winner of the Divison Champions (Juvenile-Senior, White-Black, Male and Female)*. All Kids Division competitors will receive a Raffle Ticket to win a Nintendo Wii, regardless of win or loss.
The 2010 International Master and Senior Championship and the Rio International Open took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 22nd to 25th. Our team was represented by Gustavo Dantas and Kristina Barlaan. Gustavo won the Black Belt/Senior 1/Feather Weight Division, and Kristina won the Blue Belt/Female/Feather Weight, and took 3rd place in the Open Division. Kristina went 5-1 with five submissions. Our team had a great performance at the 2010 AZ BJJ State Championship, with a total of 10 medals, the team was able to score 42 points and place 5th overall in the Kids Division. The standouts of the team were: Bobby Reike, Justes Eguchi-Kahawaii and Gerald Perkings who took 1st place in their divisions. Here are the results:
GD Jiu-Jitsu wins the AZ State Championship (Adult Division)
The 2010 AZ BJJ State Championship took place in Mesa, AZ on June 26th and 27th. Our Team won the Adult division for the 5th year in a row, producing 21 AZ State Champions, 13 runner ups, and 16 Bronze Medalists! The standouts of the team were Steve Heilman, who defeated 5 opponents to win the Purple/Senior 1/Light and the Open Class, and Kristina Barlaan, who won the Blue/Feather and the Open Class. In the Kids division, our Team took 5th place overall. The standouts of the Kids Division were: Bobby Reinke, Gerald Perkings and Justes Eguchi-Kahawaii.

Despite the fact that the BJJ program at East West MMA started only 7 months ago, the Instructors GD, Bob Merriman and Assistant Instructor Kristina Barlaan have been able to discover new talents for the Team. East West sent 9 competitors to the tournament, who captured 7 medals, making 3 State Champions! The standouts of the Team were: Gerald Perkings (Teen/Feather/White), Justes Eguchi-Kahawaii (Teen/Light/Feather/White) , and Sione Manako (Ultra Heavy/Senior 1/White) who won their divisions.Plus the runner ups: Kelly Fiori (Senior 1/Heavy/White), Justin Recker (Juvenile/Light Feather/White) and Chanson Eguchi-Kahawaii (Juvenile/Heavy/White) secured their second places. Aaron Nolan (Adult/Light Feather/White) took 3rd place.

New Weigh-In Policies and Procedures for the Kids Division (4-15 yrs):
This year, the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), the World’s leader and authority on BJJ, promoted their very first Kids Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the US, the 2010 Pan Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Since the AZSBJJF base its tournaments on their guidelines, the AZSBJJF has decided to adopt their policy and procedure for Kids competitors that don’t make weight, are registered in the wrong division, or have no matches in their registered bracket. Here is the breakdown:

Team GD Jiu-Jitsu was able to capture three medals at the 2010 World BJJ Championship in Long Beach, CA. In a tournament that had 2000 competitors, being in the podium is a HUGE accomplishment. Here are the results:
