GD Jiu-Jitsu & Nova Uniao are proud to announce our new affiliate in Gilbert, Arizona, the Michael Westbrook Self Defense Academy. Michael Westbrook is a brown belt (4 stripes) under Gustavo Dantas who has won many National and International titles, including a gold medal at the 2008 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Working together with another GD’s Brown belt (4 stripes), Morris Williams, MW BJJ will represent Nova Uniao very well in Gilbert.
The GD JIU-JITSU Events in association with the Arizona State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (AZSBJJF) is proud to announce the 2nd Southwest BJJ Classic. The competition will take place on October 16 & 17 at the Westwood High School located at 945 W. 8th St. in Mesa, AZ 85201.

The 2010 Vegas International Open and the U.S. No-Gi Nationals took place in Las Vegas on August 14th. Team Nova Uniao had an awesome performance taking 2nd place at the Vegas Open (Gi), and 3rd place at the U.S No-Gi Nationals. Thanks IBJJF for promoting another great event, and special thanks to Nova Uniao instructors Gustavo Dantas, Steve Rosenberg, Paul Nava, Pedro Diaz, John Lewis, Chris Lopez, Bob Merriman, and Bruno Bastos.

Nova União Arizona leader and GMA Gustavo Dantas along with Professor Steve Rosenberg will take a large team to the competitions to shake up Las Vegas this coming Saturday the 14th, the Las Vegas International Open and the American No-Gi Nationals.
Dantas recently took a trip home to Brazil, where he won gold at the International Master and Senior tournament. The black belt plans to see action in Vegas, too.

The 2010 Arizona State BJJ Federation School Ranking is coming to an end at the 2nd Southwest BJJ Classic. In the Adult Division, Team GD Jiu-Jitsu is repeating its dominant performance from 2009, having a 245 point lead over the runner-up. The Kids Team is still getting bigger and stronger after each tournament and should be making some noise in the next year’s rankings, but is still going to fight hard to make this year’s Top 5.
